Triple
Bottom Line: Planet + People + Profit
The Mosaic Center is a
truly transformative project as it demonstrates that LEAN Project
Delivery can be used to deliver Net 0 Living Building Challenge projects for
approximately the same cost as a traditional build. “Our return on investment will be in the
productivity of our people, recognition as good stewards of the planet and from
the financial benefits of having higher occupancy and no energy bills.” (Dennis & Christy Cuku Owners of the Mosaic
Center) The excitement created by this project has
created a movement to adopt more integrated and collaborative project delivery
models in Alberta.
The GREEN features
of the building include a Living Wall, beautiful warm wood structure, PV panels
on the roof that provide 100% of the energy for the building, a design based
upon sustainable expectations for thermal comfort levels, community engagement,
exceptional sustainable landscaping, vegetable garden, rooftop terrace, common
interactive space and a daycare. The
project and website enabled a high level of education and promotion that normal
is broken and there is a better way.
