“To build the Pantheon took some miracles,” he explained to the audience in a 2014 TED talk that has attracted more than a million views. “By miracles, I mean things that are technically barely possible, [are] very high risk, and might not be actually accomplishable at this moment in time, certainly not by you.”
Thank you
Strategy + Business for this article on Bran Ferron where we discover that
dropping out of MIT and going on rock tour with Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd can
be a good thing. It also doesn't hurt to grow up in an environment where
both ART + ENGINEERING are given equal consideration as this helps to develop
the type of creative mind needed to bring true innovation alive.
In his TED
Talk, Ferron introduces the concept of MIRACLES and that we need five of them
for true break through innovation to occur. When we consider that each person
is only capable of 1.5 miracles in a life time, we soon recognize that it take a
TEAM and the banding together of as many of the brightest people you can afford
to make great things happen. In his current company Applied Minds that is
exactly the recipe they use to develop next generation products.
When we
compare the Applied Minds approach to the "Low Cost Approach" we use to
assemble TEAMs in the construction industry, just maybe we need to THINK differently
about how we deliver projects to house the minds needed to do great work and
run successful companies.
There are
many good Nuggets in this article so I highly recommend a read. Enjoy!
